I originally promised an update this week. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot to tell, I’m still hammering away at the goal of completing the gameplay functionality for the Beta. I should make some good progress next week with the closed testing starting shortly afterwards – I already have enough testers lined up for this (see the previous blog post). My plan is to have a gameplay video up next week, showing the “Pure Mode” in action – showing things like proper NPC behavior, quests and so forth. :)

This is a short post this time but I’m planning on having a blog post per week from here on out (or more when warranted), though some may be short and informal┬álike this one.

I am so excited for this, been waiting a long time.
Can’t wait to sit down for tons of hours straight playing away

  • Dagganticipation:

Any news from you is good news! Regardless of how long or short it is!

  • elwing:

hey lucius, Will the beta-tester be free of telling us what they see and post screenshots/video?

    • luciusDXL:

Sure, they could. Though I plan on making a video of the build they will be testing (the gameplay video I mentioned in the post) so you’ll get to see it anyway.

  • Daggerdude:

I so appreciate any update you send; ever since you said you had a closed beta i’ve been obsessing over the blog, checking like 3 times a day (a little creepy i know). thanks again, looking foward to more updates!

  • Z-Blaster:

Will Awesomium be in the first testing build?

    • luciusDXL:

It’s in the code base but it’ll be disabled. The external UI will be very minimalist in order to limit the options and variables for testing purposes. It will be enabled for the public Beta release though (and the second testing build).

  • greenmeh:

Hey Lucius, I definitely appreciate any post from you, I’m so excited! Thank you for all of your hard work on this :)

  • Wynn:

    Thanks for your efforts Lucius!

  • Michel Renier:

Will the first public release include advanced features (fancy graphics, etc.)?
Or the second testing build is for testing those?

  • Ronan:

Just found this site, can’t wait for the beta of this, want to play through this game very much! And having improved graphics will be great! Keep up the good work.

  • Daggerdude:

Oh man i’ve been freaking out waiting for this, this two weeks has fealt like an eternity. i’ve been playing DF everyday building a character waiting for this. Any news would be welcome.

  • softdrinkviking:

Yay! Looking forward to more updates!
Also, I am very interested in hearing about DarkXL and when that will be getting some more love.
I’m hoping pretty soon now that you’ve more or less got the engine down?
Best of luck for the home stretch!

  • chikenbone:

Ive been with you from the start lucius, and every day for several years, i have visited your site. I realize that’s weird but i am that excited, i was worried that this would go vapor ware, to see it coming to a head is almost enough to make me sad, this project has given me a sort of consistency, what will i do once its finally done? the amount of time ive spent lurking and reading blog posts will far out way the amount of time im likely to spend playing, i wish the best for this project, and thank you for all you’ve done for the daggerfall community.

  • daggerfreak:

OMG i cant wait for this i bet its going to be awesome when its released also after this do you plan on doing arena with this engine.

  • Thomas:

Hi, sorry about that question but… as a lot of people on here I’m very excited about your project, do you have an idea of when you’ll release the fully playable beta ?

Thanks for your AMAZING work ^^ ! :D

  • drarenthiralas:

Lucius, you REALLY have a talent on breaking own plans right after publishing them.

  • GidaveAndrethi:

I found out about this Daggerfall mod in about an year ago. Since then, I’ve closely and silently watched this mod growing. When I first saw about this, I thought that there is no way that this is going to ever get finished. It was just way too much work to be done. But I was wrong. And I am happy that I was wrong.

I want to thank the creator of this mod, for putting such an amazing fight. For still continuing to do what he started years ago. It takes a lot of love, patience, hard work, dedication and determination to do something like this. I now know, that this project is indeed going to see the light one day.

I cannot way to play trough this amazing game once again, in a complete different light.

    Thank you, again.

  • This is a rather stupid question but would it be possible to get multiplayer capabilities to the game? It’s an odd question but if you could make a private server and give a friend your IP to play together (Doing quests and raiding dungeons ect…) then that would be a dream come true.

  • herpus:

Will you guys really be able to get Blood working? ‘Cause goddamn that would be so fucking awesome!

  • oukourj:

Hey ! Just passing by, like I do every few months for 3 years now, to see where the progress is.
Many thanks for a wonderful project that you keep up against all obstacles.
Eagerly waiting for the beta version.

    Cheers.

    Keep it up!!!

  • dan:

I can’t wait more! I’m following this project since the beginning and It’s tooooo long! I will die :D

can’t wait to play with the realised dagger XL !
    how things are going?

    cheers!

  • lupedid:

What happened? Are you in jail or something? After stating that you were going to update us weekly you havn’t posted a single blog update since July. Is everything ok?

  • argh!:

    hammering forever

  • IdentityAJB:

    Hey Lucious,

I really like the project and hopefully news will be coming soon for the next release. I tried Daggerfall in the past with just the dosbox and could not quite find the mettle to continue.

When I saw this mod, I loaded it up again with Daggerfall XL and fell in love….then I exited the starter dungeon and all was wrong :D. Anyways, I can’t wait for the next release!

“My plan is to have a gameplay video up next week”

    so what’s plan B? :O

  • Eli:

I’m totally stoked to try out your Beta version!

  • alvin:

Any updates. It’s been 2 months or so since this last update, and while it’s not unexpected given the previous lapses in updates, it’s always very worrisome. Hope the project is still moving along, and nothing bad has happened.

  • deMangler:

Hi – Still following your progress. thanks a lot for sticking with it. Really loving what you are doing with Daggerfall.

  • JP:

Another silent lurker, I would just like to give you two thumbs up for your work on this project, I have never posted or written anything here before because well honestly I thought it would disappear in the mist but I have followed your work over the years and I can only take my hat off for you.

Your dedication is appreciated and I’ve backed my words with a small donation.

  • Anon:

Don’t sweat missing your self-imposed deadlines. It’s pretty cool that you’re doing something this ambitious in your spare time, and with Dark Forces/Daggerfall/etc being so old now it’s not like another year or two of development is going to make much difference ;)

  • Hi

Just to tell you I am also eagerly waiting for the Beta release!
I’m following your project closely, and found an amazing work you’ve done!

Congrats and keep up the good work!

    Muriel

  • M'aiq the housecat:

Please tell us this is going to see the light. Daggerfall is the elder scrolls I like least, but I’d love to give it another chance with this engine…even if all dungeons seem like a mashup of 5 others :P

  • deMangler:

    Merry Christmas!
    Happy new year also! :)
