Hello all.

Couldn't believe it when I found out about this XL Engine project!

Very excited for the work with Daggerfall (I haven't had any experience with the other included games).

I didn't grow up with daggerfall, actually, my dad gave me a copy when I was about 16 (~8years ago) and I only played around with it trivially for a few months. I'm pretty fond of old DOS games, and didn't know what to expect with this one. All I had was a CD and no idea how to play. However it left a unique impression on me and is something I will never forget.

Character creation was very interesting. I still have not seen a single game that can match the indepth options. When I got into the game I was surprised it was in first-person perspective. Before this point, I had not even seen a screenshot of the action. It was pretty awkward and it took a while to figure out all the controls and how to swing my flail at that giant rat, but once I got further into the privateer's hold I started to realise this was no 2 minute Doom level.

I cannot stress this enough, but the dungeons in Daggerfall have the most intense dungeon atmosphere I have ever seen in a game. Damn those creaking doors for setting my nerves on edge. And damn those long dark corridors and dark cavernous great halls (so much darker than all the later games!).

When I finally made it out into the open world and got to travel around to the cities I was blown away by the shear immensity of the game world. Some of my favourite things to do were go to Daggerfall at night (typical), and go roof hopping around Sentinel while trying to kill as many guards as possible.

I didn't get to play the main story since I didn't really understand what the game was about (didn't even know the story line), but I sure can't wait to give it another go via XL Engine!

Thanks.

PS - may try to regularly donate to this worthy and sizeable project.

Welcome! :D
The darkness in Daggerfall really gives it a great atmosphere, especially when you get somewhere at night and all you see is glowing windows in the distance and some street lamps. I find that games these days insist on making night time bright, which totally removes any atmosphere and fear from it. It especially works great in dungeons like you said.
Hope you enjoy your stay!
