Regarding higher resolutions, later versions of XnGine (SkyNet, Battlespire) had their own high-resolution mode. However, the Build engine also supports higher screen resolutions, and it is my understanding that the earlier versions of XL Engine have their own routine for high resolution. Do you plan to add a reconstructed version of the XnGine high-res mode for Daggerfall, or use one of the already available versions? Or does it actually make no difference both for you as the programmer and the user?
