Yeah, I could try it, why not. Least I could do.
I'm sure I did several pointless things which didn't need to be done to get it working tho. Maybe tomorrow (or day after tomorrow) I could backtrace my steps and find out what really worked and write it down. Maybe, in the process, I'll somehow manage to get that screenshots working too.

Replace Dosbox.exe with the XL Engine Launcher instead. That's what worked for me.

Do note that you'll have to point the Launcher to a shorter filepath than what Steam resides in. C:\New folder (2)\Dark Forces worked for me. Just remember to copy over the Steam game files as well.

In fact, unzipping the XL engine everywhere and copying the Steam game files everywhere is a pretty good idea.

This would be very nice indeed. I always edit all games I can with source ports so when I launch them I can have overlay/screenshots and game time counting.
