The AWE32 is actually a GM-compatible wavetable synth, so I'd be surprised if it uses the FM songs (which would be for OPL2 or OPL3-based devices). This is Bethesda we're talking about though, so who knows.

The odd bit is that HMI files actually have a way to enable or disable specific tracks based on the device being used, so they could have (theoretically) put both GM and FM songs into one file and let the appropriate tracks play based on the device. But instead they set the tracks to play on all devices and pick the file based on the device.

The entire Daggerfall soundtrack played on a real Roland SC-88. Not quite as good as some of the remixes listed here, IMO, but still better than most MIDI synths, and it is the complete set.

The video contains links for 192kbps MP3 downloads (no FLACs, unfortunately).

My word, this music is... nostalgic and beautiful.
