Great to see i'm not the only one who dislikes 1900x1200+ textures on extremely low detailed 3d stuff.

IMO, it's usually styles clashing with both the original style and that from different contributing authors that is the biggest problem, not so much the resolution. In older games, a common problem is wanting to add too much realism.

If done correctly, it can bring detail to nearby textures, where you otherwise would just see large pixels.

A slight comic style wouldn't be out of place, just look at the character portaits which are also not drawn super-realistic. Just bring as many details in each texture as the 3d model requires (and maybe a bit more). The problem with super high resolution textures on low-poly models is that a simple plane surface is painted with tons of details that then lack any three-dimensional representation. Small details that would be mostly flat anyway are however something that works well bein on the texture only.
An example of that would be grass textures. Grass naturally sticks out of the ground (especially wildly grown grass), so putting a photograph of actual grass on a straight surface looks simply awkward, because it differs too much from what we expect grass to look like. On gravel however small stones can add some detail to the texture because they are still (almost) flat.

As a result of that I'd make grass textures just green with some noise/brush added, and sand/gravel similar, but with smaller stones drawn onto it. I hope you get what I mean.

Neat.

However, the texture you're using as floor texture is for the altar. Use the floor texture from the first page and see how it looks. ;)

EDIT:

You can also try this one as the floor. ; )

Will make the other colours too. (the green wood and blue wood)

I made the planks in different shades of red because it looks much less dull like this. (ugh, the snow turned out crappy)

The seams in the floor tile here may need a little tweaking:

Otherwise it looks good!
