Been lurking/inactive a while, but I have worked on the NPC flats in the past:

(File link in my signature).

Were I to start working on these again, I'd probably draw fresh interpretations from scratch. Upscaling 'accurately' just takes way too long.

Those look great. I've noticed the dates on most of these works have been quite a while ago but are you still working on them (or started over as you stated)?

No, I haven't worked on any more since. I still think redrawing them from scratch (like the portrait work) would be much faster than trying to upscale them by hand. I need to improve my drawing technique more before I tackle that.

Hi everyone!

First of all, let me tell you that you people are really good artists, the re-texture project and the new portraits are wonderful, and fits very well to the Original Daggerfall Atmosphere.
I've been follow the XL project for a very long time and I'm very exited for the beta release.

My reason to be here is that I want to contribute with something to this graphic enhancement project, Will the XL Engine support high resolution GUI? if so, did someone work on the HUD and Menu images yet? If not, can I try?

Here some examples of work that I have been doing this afternoon:

Sadly Imageshack resized the images, originally all were 600% bigger than the source, extracted from the game with Daggerfall Imaging.

So, what do you think? I didn't add any of the words 'cause I like to know if it will be some special font to use instead of the original passionless yellow blocky font, and if those images are worthy enough "to be in"...

This is my first attempt to interact in an english speaking forum, so I apologize for my english.

Best regards.

My only criticism would be the image with the scroll. I think I'd like to see the parchment more ragged on the edges as seen in the original, and it would be nice if the parchment looked thicker. The scroll looks good, just not as faithful to the original as I'd prefer. Other than that, I really like what you've done! I would definitely love to see your GUI elements available for use in DaggerXL! :D
I'm frequently online in the #xlengine.projects channel at irc.freenode.net as Klasodeth, Klaso, or KLA.

Cool stuff! And I like your parchment :)
Looking forwards to play with new UI system and skin it with those.

Thanks!

I agree that the parchment would look better that way, so I did, how about now?

Also I've been working on the compass, a very easy thing, but easy don't mean quality, so judge for yourselves:

Image

That's a preview, it should look the same in-game, but in motion of course.

And finally, I spend quite a long time on this, I hope you like it as much as I do (though I can change it anyway if you dislike it):

The original work is 1920 x 1200, 600% of the original size.

Please let me know if my sentences doesn't make sense...

As for menu screen there is video replacement by Rhymer here.
For UI replacement textures we also have separate topic, so I guess it would be cool to move those posts to it. Generally speaking "General Discussion" is too big to find anything in it.

Phobos, these are great! You've done a better job than anyone of preserving all the original details-- the nicks and cracks and pockets in the stones, the exact ragged edges of the parchment... It brings a whole other level of fidelity to your work. It's exactly what I want to see in an upscale of the originals.

My critiques:
  • Stone could use more range in luminance; originals have darker dark veins in the stone.
  • Save/Load parchment could use more dark-tan coloring, wood a darker stain, and the glass globes may need a "belt" of thicker glass at the waist and perhaps a similar "footing".
  • Original HUD spell button has a perpendicular crack pointing down into the corner off the side of the crack crossing the lower left corner.

That's just about all I can say because they're just about perfect!

But jet's suggestion makes sense for organizing posts in one subject.

Thanks Brendan, I'm glad you like it.

I've tweaked some things according to what you just told me, especially the new game screen, which I think It's now a bit better, but I was unable to change some tones and contrasts without ending up ruining some items on the picture and its definitions, especially the parchment (but surely I will try to do it right in another moment, It's really the very first time that I've done some things like this and one always need to practice).

Those videos of the menu screen and the death scene are just gorgeous, hope Rhymer still be working on that. By other hand, I didn't know that someone was already making the menu images, is he still on the work? The last post is from late October of 2011.

Anyway, if some moderator thinks it would be better to move my posts to that thread, it's fine for me (or if it allowed to me to create my own updated thread on the subject it would be ok for me too).
